The parents and students enjoyed many activities, including crafts and pumpkin decorating in the cafeteria, tug-o-war, sack races, face painting, hayrack rides, a stunt bike exhibition by Karl Hinkley and many other activities. The stunt bikes and hayrack rides were a big hit. The Elementary Boosters provided free hot dogs, chips and drinks to all who attended. The weather for the evening was beautiful. Parents were able to enjoy activities with their families or sit around a campfire on hay bales and visit with each other. A special thanks should go to Karl Hinkley and his group of helpers. They provided their stunt show for the festival free of charge. There was a lot of equipment to haul and set up and they just did an outstanding job with the show. Our kids and students were very impressed. On a related note the boosters will be sponsoring an elementary skate night on November 11th at Skate Zone in Lincoln. Adults get in free, so come on out if you would like to skate! State of the Schools Report The Department of Education made the State of the Schools Report public recently. This report generates a lot of public interest in performance levels of the all schools in the state. I think anyone looking at the information for Palmyra/Bennet Schools would be impressed. We have met AYP in all areas at all grade levels for at least the second straight year. Check out the report at the following web site: HYPERLINK "http://www.education.ne.gov/"http://www.education.ne.gov/ More New Students We have had two new enrollments at the elementary school this month. Mrs. Cheney said that we might have a few more preschool students that will be enrolling this month. I have a meeting with prospective parents next week who are looking at moving into our school district. On the down side we have lost two students due to family relocation. Veterans Day Plans Again this year, we will be hosting area veterans for lunch on Veterans Day. We are in the process of sending out invitations members of the local Am. Legion this week. Deb Boell is planning a turkey dinner! We will have students making table arrangements and decorations for the cafeteria. Last years luncheon was a great success and we look for continued success this year. Board members are certainly welcome to come and join us that day also! Just give us a call by Tuesday and let us know so we can get you on the lunch count. I. Secondary Principals Report November 8, 2010 State of the Schools Report ǸԹ K-12 instructional program accomplishments are available for your review at the following web site: HYPERLINK "http://www.education.ne.gov"http://www.education.ne.gov the report indicates a high level of achievement across the board as the district continues to meet and exceed State averages in almost every area of comparison including meeting AYP scores for the second straight year. Superintendents Report and Recommendations 1. Calendar change November 24, 1:30 p.m. dismissal in order to facilitate the presentation for students and staff related to issues surrounding bullying and texting. Each presentation will be 1 hour in length for middle grades (5-8) and secondary students (9-12) followed by staff at 2:00. 2. Parent informational meeting relating to bullying and texting will be held on November 22 at 7:00 p.m. for approximately 1 hour in the High School gym with Karen Haase from Harding and Shultz presenting. 3. Curriculum alignment work continues as the ESU 4 staff will be scheduled to present information for our staff in the subject areas of Math and Science on January 17th. 4. ARRA IDEA and ESEA funds must be spent this fiscal year or the district will forfeit the ability to utilize those federal dollars provided as part of the stimulus package. Currently the district is on track to expend those dollars in an approved manner by working with the Nebraska Department of Education. 5. ESU 4 staff development information for 2009-2010 attendees is included in your Board of Education packet. This information is a review of our participation for that fiscal year and as you can see we are well represented as a district in a variety of areas related to Professional Development. 6. Mr. Hanger thanked the Administrative Team and Staff for work beginning in several areas. Current initiatives under way include a review of several processes including curriculum development, technology, norm referenced assessments and an exploration of dual credit course opportunities.
